TDP Far Infrared Lamp – A Quick Overview

The TDP lamp was invented and is manufactured in China. I have been unable to find direct sources of information. The following is an overview based on a general consensus of US-based acupuncturists and natural healing specialists.

Read about my experience with the “Magic“ Lamp: Managing Central Pain Syndrome (CPS).

Origin of the TDP Lamp

TDP stands for “Teding Diancibo Pu” which basically means it is an electromagnetic spectrum lamp. The TDP Lamp was invented to mimic the properties of clay discovered in a ceramic factory in rural China.

Back in the early 1970’s, the Chinese government became aware of workers at a rural ceramic factory that had remarkably few physical ailments despite the treacherous working conditions. They sent a team of scientists to the factory to investigate the lack of worker health complaints.

The workers, who spent their days standing knee-deep in clay exposed to the high heat from the kilns, never complained of common work related ailments or illnesses. The rates of all diseases including arthritis and cancer were well below the norm.

The scientists discovered the clay contained 33 minerals that happen to correspond with 33 essential minerals in the human body. They also discovered that the far infrared light emitted by the kiln contained special healing properties when combined with the unique mineral composition of the clay.

When this mineral rich clay is sufficiently heated, it radiates far-infrared energy exactly like the human body.

How does the Lamp Work? A simple overview of the TDP Mineral Lamp aka the “Miracle” or “Magic” Lamp; its origin, how it works, uses, & contraindications.

TDP Lamps use a heat-treated plate coated in the mineral infused clay. The lamp activates this plate by using a heating element that causes the mineral plate to emit deep (up to 3 ½”) penetrating far infrared waves. These infrared waves range from 2 to 25 microns in wavelength which match the natural healing infrared waves created by our bodies. Our tissues naturally absorb these waves which promote healing.

The absorbed energy promotes microcirculation, which brings more oxygen and nutrients to the treated area. The improved blood circulation causes the expansion of the capillary vessels, which aid in tissue detoxification, and affects the lymphatic system. It strengthens the immune system as well as relieves pain in the body.

Uses

In Asia, where it is often called the “Miracle” or “Magic” Lamp, there are entire clinics dedicated to TDP healing. Used as a standalone treatment, they treat more than 100 conditions. I have found no mention of it treating CPS type pain, only joint & muscular pain.

In the US, the TDP lamps have FDA approval for treating chronic pain and arthritis. Some insurance companies will even pay for it as an arthritis treatment.

Many acupuncturists (worldwide) use the TDP lamp over inserted acupuncture needles as a substitute for moxibustion.  This gently and comfortably warms the acupuncture needles to provide more intense stimulation of the area.

Contraindications – Include but not limited to:

• Pregnant women
• Infants
• Varicose veins
• People experiencing fever, otitis media, splenitis, opthalmic diseases
• People with open pulmonary tuberculosis, serious arteriosclerosis, and with bleeding tendencies
• People with hypertension should not shine the TDP Lamp on their head
• People with surgical implants – metal, silicone, pacemakers (these foreign materials may absorb and hold heat at a different rate than living tissue, accidentally causing internal burns. Use over a different place on your body.)
• People with neuropathy who cannot feel the temperature accurately (accidental burns may occur)

Unfortunately, the TDP lamp is not something you can purchase at a brick & mortar store.  The people I know purchased theirs from e-bay or Amazon.  I feel more comfortable with Amazon due to their easy return policy if there is a problem.

Don’t get confused with regular infrared lamps, it’s the mineral plate in the TDP lamps that are “magical”.
